In the NewsMiddle School Registration
Attention 5th Grade Parents:
It is hard to believe but it is almost time to begin thinking about middle school registration. The majority of our ILES children attend either Brandon or Salem Middle School. Middle school registration typically begins about mid-December when Mrs. Brooks (our GRT) and I visit all 5th grade classrooms to discuss elective choices. At that time, we also discuss the application process for Kemps Landing and Plaza MYP. Please be on the lookout for more information about all of these programs in the coming months. At this time, please mark your calendars for the following important dates:
- Brandon Middle School will hold a Parent Registration Night on Wednesday, January 7th at 6:30 pm.
- Salem Middle School will hold their Elective night on Tuesday, January 6th at 6:00 pm.
- Kemps Landing Middle School will hold an Information Night for prospective students on January 6 and January 7 from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
- The International Baccalaureate Middle Year Program (MYP) at Plaza Middle will hold their Program Information Nights on January 7th and 8th from 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
These information nights are the best way to learn more about middle school electives, expectations, and to help guide you through the middle school registration process so please mark your calendars!

SCA Meeting: Tuesday, December 9 at 3:10 in room 2.
SCA Spirit Day: Animal Day on Friday, December 12.
It is time to start thinking about the Shamrock Race! Once again, we will be participating as a school in the Shamrock Marathon. We are encouraging each student to participate in this great event. Students will be participating in the Operation Smile Final Mile of the 8K Student Challenge. The races will take place at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront on Saturday, March 21. I have sent home a letter to each student with all of the information about this great event. The link to sign up for the race is posted at the bottom of this message. I have challenged the school to have a total of 150 or more students to register for the race. If we can accomplish this goal I will dump a bucket of ice water on myself! This race is going to be a lot of fun!
If you have any questions or concerns please email me at [email protected]
The link to register for the race is: http://www.shamrockmarathon.com/
Once you register your child/children please send me an email so that I can add them to the list of our runners on our Shamrock Wall!

Microsoft Student Advantage Program for Virginia Beach City Public Schools
A new initiative from Microsoft will enable every VBCPS student to access Office 365 at no charge. With Office 365, your child will have access to programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote and more. It's automatically updateable, which means your child will be working with the latest versions of the software.
• Install on up to 5 compatible PCs and Macs, plus 5 tablets (including iPad!)
• Use with OneDrive for automatic device syncing
• Gain valuable skills on the world's most popular productivity software
This offer is available to all VBCPS students. To get your student's free Office 365 visit http://www.vbschools.com/students/advantage/index.asp and follow the download instructions.
Student ID and network password are required for download. If you don't know the student ID and/or password, contact the school's Computer Resource Specialist.
Note: Students in grades 3-5 should know their passwords soon if not yet. Because classroom teachers set the first passwords of the year you could also ask them. We have not yet assigned K-3 passwords but we certainly can if you need them.
